Leeds’ partner city of Hangzhou has been offering its support during the Covid-19 emergency by sending a donation of face masks to Leeds City Council.
The donation of 10,000 masks arrived in Leeds from China this month and have already been distributed to front-line social care workers across the city. Along with the generous donation, the city of Hangzhou sent a message of solidarity to the citizens of Leeds, as well as sharing details and examples of best practice on China’s approach to tackling the virus.
Leeds has a strong partnership with the city of Hangzhou, which dates back to 1988 and has seen many different projects over the last 30 years. The relationships and contacts developed between the two cities was a key factor in the Chinese Olympic Committee’s decision to use Leeds as their pre-Olympic training camp for the London 2012 Olympics.
