We’re continuing to build on our strong links with China by hosting a civic reception for a delegation made up of over 20 members from the Chinese Olympic Committee.
The visiting delegation, which included senior researchers, professors and coaches from the world of Sports Science are visiting Leeds as part of a two week programme that focuses on cutting edge research and UK best practice in Sports Science and medical research.
During their visit to Leeds, the delegation met with the Lord Mayor, Cllr Eileen Taylor, and the leader of Leeds City Council, Cllr Judith Blake.
They also heard about some of the work the Council is doing to promote physical activity and sport inline with the City’s vision to be the most active city in the UK. This included details on the initiative ‘Get Set Leeds’ – a city conversation with 2,500 people that will lead to the creation of new community-led ideas to get residents more active.
This visit builds on the relationship developed between Leeds and the Chinese Olympic Committee in 2012, when the City hosted the first ever Chinese pre-games Olympic training camp, as part of the Chinese preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games. During this training camp, athletes and officials were accommodated at the University of Leeds and used a wide range of sports facilities in Leeds and West Yorkshire for their pre-Olympic preparations.
