Leeds City Council joined experts from Israel and the UK for an online event that explored how education and ed-tech have evolved during the Covid-19 crisis.
The webinar, organised by the Embassy of Israel, provided stakeholders in education with the chance to hear about the challenges and opportunities that the education sector has faced around ed-tech during what has been a unprecedented period of change for the sector.
The event panellists included representatives from a range of different organisations from both the UK and Israel including local authorities, schools and ed-tech businesses.
Leeds City Council’s Director of Children and Families, Saleem Tariq OBE, provided a perspective from UK cities, speaking about the challenges Leeds had faced in ensuring children had access to education during lockdown.
Saleem also commented on some of the opportunities that ed-tech had presented, such as regular contact with headteachers and allowing teachers to develop closer relationships with pupils.
Commenting on the event, Head of Civil Society Affairs at the Embassy of Israel, Jenny Sedov said: ‘We really enjoyed the chance to bring together experts from Israel and the UK to share their experiences, build relationships and discuss a topic that is relevant worldwide. We hope that this will be the start of ongoing cooperation between Israel and Leeds City Council.’
