Leeds has today reaffirmed its support for Ukraine as the world marks the third anniversary of the Russian invasion.
To demonstrate the city's commitment to and solidarity with the Ukrainian people, Leeds Civic Hall will be changing its lights to blue and yellow - the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
There will also be a rally, commemorative walk, and wreath laying organised by the Leeds Ukrainian Community Association, starting at Dortmund Square, Leeds LS1 8EQ at 6:30pm.
In July 2022, Leeds was approached by the city of Kharkiv in June 2022 with a view to develop closer links. This led to a unanimous resolution by Leeds’s Full Council in July 2022 to develop closer ties of friendship with the Ukrainian city.
In December 2023. Lord Mayor of Leeds and the Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv signed a formal friendship oath in Prague with the support of the British Embassies in Czech Republic and Ukraine.
Today also marks Estonian Independence Day, and Leeds Town Hall and Leeds City Museum will be lit with blue, white and black.
