Reconnecting Communities Through Neighbourhood Twinning.
On Wednesday, 16th October, a dedicated team from the We Are Seacroft neighbourhood partnership will visit Leeds's twin city, Lille, specifically the suburb of Moulins.
This trip is part of an ongoing commitment to building harmonious communities and learning from our counterparts. Their objectives during this visit include enhancing their relationship with Moulins through various activities such as sports, culinary exchanges, youth and family programs, music, and the arts.
A significant component of this initiative is the collaboration between community radio stations in both locations. By utilizing East Leeds Community Radio in Seacroft and Radio Moulins, they will be facilitating real-time connections, sharing stories, and celebrating our diverse cultures. Over the next few years, they intend to deepen these relationships, focusing on narratives that showcase both the similarities and differences of the two neighbourhoods.
Katy Hayley, Community Programmes Manager at Chapel FM says 'Through this cultural exchange, we aim to promote understanding and friendship between our communities. As we embark on this journey with our new friends in Moulins, we are optimistic about the future. Our initiative seeks to enhance relationships and cultural awareness through shared experiences, ultimately enriching the skills and perspectives of our staff and community members.
'We also hope to motivate our youth to become engaged global citizens. An exciting possibility within this initiative is the establishment of a live exchange program, enabling participants to interact directly. Together, we aspire to create a dynamic network that honours diversity and fortifies the connections between our two communities. We Are Seacroft looks forward to hosting young people from Moulins in the spring of 2025.
